Pastor John and Letty King were married in UK.  While pastoring in UK Calvary Christian Center, Nuneaton, UK, in 1988, pastor John King had nervous breakdown and the source of his breakdown was caused by overworking.

Pastor friend of John King known as John Palson (a pastor and evangelist) mentored him during the 6 months of his serious depression.  After the six months Pastor King noted that, he did the right thing to step down and seek help.  Pastor John King also, resigned the Youth leadership in UK.  Pastor John King, acknowledges the added responsibility of Youth leadership, plus the church and care of his young family (married with three children), became extremely overwhelming.

Pastor John says that, before he became the youth leader in UK, he felt that it was not God’s will to do so.  But, he said “my ego and personal desire” (direct quote) led me into it.  Pastor John’s counsel to fellow pastors today is that, each should be aware of his/her boundaries.  King adds, it is a great mistake to take on more than what we can chew.   Now, as a pastor of a great church in USA, Riverside Community Church, Peoria Illinois, Pastor John King counsels other pastors by encouraging them to take care themselves.   John King says, he is blessed to have a team of elders who are looking after him.

Finally, John King says that, when one is tired, overworked, burnout and or depressed, etc., it is always wise to seek help.  Pastor King, admits that his team of elders in UK or here in America, was/is a strong team which he has always been compelled to seek their guidance. Today, John counsels and encourages young pastors to work with their elder teams.  Two, he encourages pastors to travel in their ministerial calling according to Ephesians 4:11-13.
